Sugena's Purgatory, Colorado, Ski Elopement

Sitting on the Southern edge of the San Juan Mountains about 20 miles North of Durango on Highway 550 there is a ski area known as Purgatory.  It isn't well renowned in most ski crowds, but there are some of us who know and cherish this "little" ski resort.  Durango photographers love this place and its surroundings because of the plethora of great photography spots.  Everyone else loves it for the generally family friendly skiing atmosphere and great vibes.

When Sugena and Darek reached out to me to inquire about my Colorado elopement packages I was immediately very excited about their proposition!  There was no way I was going to turn down a ski elopement on the slopes of my local ski area.

As a Durango photographer I love Purgatory not just for the skiing, but also for the fantastic views.  When Sugena propositioned me I immediately knew that we would get some exceptional Durango wedding photography as a result of her plan.

Unfortunately, Purgatory does not offer winter wedding packages so if you are interested in Durango elopement photography on your skis you'll have to plan and execute your day on your own or with my assistance!

The scheduled wedding day was going to be stormy so we went skiing a few days early to get some great photos in the sun before the temperatures dropped.  The ceremony turned out to be a snowy one so we were glad to have done some on-mountain photos already.

I personally love the lighting during winter storms.
